Expectations were high for the 2010 Beaver Falls Tigers. Having lost only three players from a team that finished in the final four of the WPIAL a year earlier, the Tigers were a highly regarded team entering the year. The Beaver Falls nine responded with one of the best seasons in school history, finishing 19-4 and winning the school’s fourth WPIAL title.
The Tigers were paced by a very strong pitching staff led by seniors Tyler Schuster (7-1) and Marlo Cleckley (4-2) who broke the school career strikeout record. Junior Tory Begley, who pitched a no-hitter against Shenango had a 5-0 pitching record. Offensively, the Tigers were led by senior outfielder Admire Carter who batted .500 almost the entire season, but finished with a school record .478 batting average. Mike Stevenson (.403), David Ginand (.357), Tyler Schuster (.356), and Evan Chiappetta (.338) all turned in solid offensive seasons for the champions.
The Tigers had some close calls in the WPIAL playoffs. In the second round against Laurel, the Tigers came back from a 3-0 deficit and won in the bottom of the eighth inning. Admire Carter tied the game in the seventh with a two-out, two-strike double down the left field line and Devin Sharek scored on a passed ball for the victory. After falling behind in the semifinals to Center, Marlo Cleckley hit a grand slam to pace the comeback and Aaron Ramirez drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning. In the championship game at Consol Energy Park, Tyler Schuster pitched a 3-hit shutout and struck out twelve. The offense was outstanding in the game, scoring six of the seven runs with two outs. The Tigers lost in the PIAA first round by Martinsburg Central at Chippewa Park.
