Beaver Falls Tigers Baseball 2006

10-10 Overall Record; 7-5 Section 5-AA Record
The Beaver Falls varsity baseball team made tremendous strides in the 2006 baseball season. Despite being a young team, with only two starters returning from the 2005 campaign, the Tigers qualified for the WPIAL playoffs for the third consecutive season. The team was led by a very solid pitching staff led by senior Vince Lloyd (4-2 record; 97 strikeouts, 2.32 ERA) and junior Brandon Rue (45 strikeouts, .224 average against). Lloyd was instrumental in section wins over Laurel, Neshannock and Shenango. Brandon Rue led the team offensively with a .389 batting average with 20 runs and 15 RBI. Newcomer Lance Jeter batted .302 with a team leading three home runs. Lloyd led the team in RBI with 22 to go along with three homers. Dan Holman had a solid junior season with a .380 batting average.
Amazing individual performances were seen throughout the spring. Ryan Chiappetta and Torian Cyrus had game winning RBI in the form of home runs over Neshannock in the two section contests between the two teams. In one of the more exciting moments of the season, Lance Jeter hit a walkoff grand slam in a nonsection victory over city league champ Langley. The Langley victory was the first part of a doubleheader sweep on a Saturday afternoon in April. Sophomore Torian Cyrus had the game winning single in the nightcap over a very strong West Allegheny team. Vince Lloyd struck out 17 batters in a playoff clinching performance victory over Laurel.
The Tigers lost to the number three seed Burrell in the WPIAL playoffs in May.
